How your environment can influence your habits
Reminding yourself of the mission
It’s about getting back up…
Quote of the day -
“ You are a product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objective. Analyze your life in terms of its environment. Are the things around you helping you toward success - or are they holding you back? ”
- W. Clement Stone
The Challenge
Unconsciously Molding into our Environment
Have you noticed that the people you choose to befriend, for the most part, have similar habits and goals as you. We all naturally choose people in our lives that compliments ourselves in some way shape or form.
It’s human nature, we can’t help it.
So what happens if we make peace with a harmful environment?
We slowly become our environment. It becomes inevitable if you are you not mindful of this influence. Studies have shown that environment plays the largest factor on influence of human behavior and habits.
This can be any sort of setting…
your friend group.
your work.
where you hang out.
and even where you live.
Each factor of your environment unconsciously molds who you are.
How is that fair? Does that mean we have no control over the type of person we become?
Technically speaking, you could argue that much of who we are is a result of our relationships. But we get to choose who our friends are, we get to choose where we hangout and where we work.
So YOU get to choose who influences you
What happens when you don’t get to choose? We’ll talk about what you can do to NOT become a product of your environment.
Remind yourself of the Mission
There are times when you do not have a choice of who you’re around or where you have to work, or even where you hangout.
Most people just get caught up in a certain lifestyle that doesn’t align with their mission or goals. No matter the circumstances, we have to remind ourselves of what we are set out to do...
Write down your goals, read them to yourself every morning and every night before you go to bed. Be mindful of those goals throughout your day.
How often do you think about your mission? Is it on your mind often? Your own accountability will guide you if you don’t neglect that side of you.
You must focus on your goals, think and dream about them… then ask yourself if your actions align with your ambitions.
If not, something needs to change.
When you say you’re going to do something and follow through with those words.
I’m currently out of town, I don’t have a full gym here, which is an environmental challenge. But I refuse to use that as an excuse, I will figure out replacement workouts, things to do with bodyweight and other ways to challenge myself.
Each time you face adversity is another opportunity to become better.
Falling down is Inevitable, it’s about getting back up
Everybody falls off the wagon at some point, in a big or small way. All that matters is getting back up and pushing through the journey.
Just because you know everybody falls, that does not make it an excuse to allow it to happen. You need to do everything in your power to create an impenetrable mind, and build habits on pillars so strong that no outside influence could ever knock them down.
If you are currently in a place in life where you aren’t happy with the person you see in the mirror… I’m telling you that it’s time to pick up that cross and keep going. The journey starts again today.
Whether you had a weight loss goal, a monetary goal, a career goal, or some sort of physical goal… you start again today.
Take a look at your environment, and make the changes you need to make in your environment that will support your goals.
Create a place to grow that holds you to higher standards than you would normally hold yourself to. Be around high achieving people, be around people that you aspire to be like, and talk to them. Learn and grow.
