Fall in Love with the Process

"If you're bored with life – you don't get up every morning with a burning desire to do things – you don't have enough goals."

–Lou Holtz

Your Goals Become your Anchor, the Process Becomes your Compass

Just last year, I was someone who had a vague idea of what I wanted, but I lacked specific goals. Consequently, my life felt devoid of purpose and routine. Each morning, I would wake up with a sense of stagnation, as if I were going nowhere.

Something had to change, so I decided to go play college hockey and pursue this newsletter (I've been playing hockey my whole life for those who don't know).

Leaving the familiar surroundings I had known my entire life challenged me to step out of my comfort zone. Despite some initial challenges and struggles, I gradually gained clarity regarding my personal goals and aspirations.

As time went on, I established a productive and fulfilling daily routine. I began consistently making my bed, paying closer attention to my diet, and resisting the temptations and distractions that constantly surrounded me. Most importantly, I began living my life with a clear sense of purpose day in and day out.

There's something remarkable that occurs when you become goal-oriented. Every action you take starts to align with your objectives.

The process becomes blissful

You become fulfilled with purpose.

You start to fall in love with the struggle.

I have absolutely fallen in love with the process. Head-over-heels tunnel vision. Nothing will move me nor can it.

This doesn't happen overnight. Becoming healthy and pushing towards your goals is tough, especially in the beginning when you start from ground zero.

Get Started with these Small Actions

One of the aspects I can't assist you with is the task of identifying your own personal goals. This is a deeply personal journey that everyone must undertake for themselves. However, I can offer guidance on gaining a bit of clarity through small, everyday actions.

  1. Journaling: Dedicate a few minutes each day to write down your thoughts, reflections, and aspirations. This practice can help you clarify your goals and track your progress.

  2. Set SMART Goals: Make your goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This framework provides a clear structure for your objectives.

  3. Prioritize Tasks: Create a to-do list and prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency. Tackling high-priority items first can help you make progress toward your goals.

  4. Make your Bed: A clean, organized room, is a cleaner mind.

  5. Visualize Success: Spend a few moments each day visualizing yourself achieving your goals. This mental imagery can help reinforce your commitment and belief in your objectives.

  6. Learn Continuously: Dedicate time to learning and self-improvement. Reading, taking courses, or seeking knowledge.

  7. Eat Better and Exercise: Mastering the body is JUST as important as mastering the mind. One cannot go without the other

  8. Mindfulness and Meditation: Practice mindfulness and meditation to stay present and reduce stress. A calm mind can help you make better decisions and stay committed to your goals.

  9. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate your small achievements along the way. This positive reinforcement can boost your motivation and drive.

  10. Stay Accountable: Share your goals with a trusted friend or mentor who can hold you accountable. Regular check-ins can help you stay on course.
